Progress is being made in women’s rights in the Middle East, but it’s neither as rapid nor as comprehensive as it needs to be. It is a complicated process, and outcomes vary significantly across the region.

Moving forward

Winning the war on terror and ultimately defeating religious extremism and its oppression in the Middle East is impossible unless those who seek peace are able stand up and are supported by the rest of us. Policy needs to open new lines of communication not close doors to those seeking safety and progress.
